ICY LIL BEAUTY ROUTINE: PT. 1 - SKINCARE

I'VE BEEN ASKED what I do to take care of my skin pretty consistently over the last few years, so today, I'm breaking it down for ya.

I actually take awful care of my hair and skin. I sleep in my makeup almost every night and I rinsed my face with water and a washcloth this morning. Not to mention, I haven't washed my hair in a week. But as I get older, I notice the effects of my negligence so this is actually inspiring me to do better.

I'm not always piece of shit, and when I have my shit together, my skin and hair actually do look nice. I think everyone thinks their skin is worse than it actually is, but whatever. Here we go.

First thing's first. ALWAYS, always, always, always moisturize your neck and décolletage. None of us wanna be the old lady with the nice face but aged, wrinkly neck. I know you know what I'm talking about. MOISTURIZE THAT SHIT.

Anyway, everything I use is from the Body Shop. I promise I'm not sponsored - I just LOVE their skincare products and have been using them for years.

CLEANSING

I start by cleansing with the Seaweed Deep Cleansing Gel Wash

It's for combination/oily skin and not only does it mattify, it feels sooooo tingly and refreshing. My skin is dry to combination, so it helps balance out my oily T-Zone and the rest of my skin. It also removes makeup really well. I can see it melting off my face when I look down at the sink.

REMOVING MAKEUP

I'm back-tracking a little bit, but I'm obsessed with the Camomile Silky Cleansing Makeup Remover Oil.

I know just the word "oil" freaks people out, but oil is one of the most effective makeup removers I've ever used. It's definitely oil, but it's a thin, smooth texture - definitely not dense like almond and coconut oils.
I like to rub this all over a dry face, really focusing on my cheeks and eyes (I wear the most makeup there). It doesn't burn or disturb your eyes at all, and according to their site it's safe for contact lens wearers, so that's a plus! Then, I wet my hands, rub the product on my face a little more with wet hands (you really see the makeup melting off your skin) and then rinse.
There is a very light oily feel left on your face, but you're going to cleanse after, anyway, so you're good! If my face feels really dry, sometimes I'll only cleanse with this at night and just skip the seaweed cleanser.

MOISTURIZING

When it comes to moisturizing, I'm a firm believer in day creams and night cremes. They just do different things.

In the morning, I switch between the Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturizer and the Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet

The Vitamin C moisturizer is AMAZING. I see so many products like this by Clean & Clear and other brands that are supposed to brighten your skin, enhance your glow, energize your skin and it's all bullshit. If anything, those products just make my skin feel dry.
But this bad boy has a bitch looking WOKE in the am. My face is always puffy and kinda dull when I wake up. The seaweed cleanser is definitely refreshing, but sometimes my moisturizer counteracts that crisp, matte feeling. I think this works really well with it. It really does almost wake my skin up, and I love to use it if I'm doing a glowy, summery look. It's actually really moisturizing, too.

The Vitamin E sorbet is great because of its texture. Personally, when I think of Vitamin E, I think of really heavy moisturizer - the kind that leaves your face feeling coated in product. This ain't that, shorty. This shit is soooo light sometimes I can't remember if I actually used anything - but in a good way! It leaves my skin perfectly hydrated without the fear that my T-Zone will be oily AF in an hour because it's also mattifying! It moisturizes really, really well but it's not necessarily made for ultra-dry skin, so don't quote me on that.

At night, I use the Vitamin E Nourishing Night Cream and Vitamin E Eye Cream.

After all the bullshit I've done to my face, it deserves some deep moisturizing. Think about it, we've covered our skin in oil and scrubbed makeup off of it, cleansed and stripped all that oil off our face, and if you use toner, we toned that bitch. It's had a long day and it needs some love. I love the night cream because it feels like I'm just giving my face a hug. It's so soft and gentle and my face feels like baby skin when I wake up.
I started using eye cream about a year ago. One, black don't crack, but I'm only half. Two, I used to do so much damage to my eyes rubbing off all that eye makeup (I don't wear that shit anymore) I just feel bad for 'em. And lastly, I don't get enough sleep and I don't need anything else contributing to the bags and dark circles around my eyes. This shit feels like a dream.

Pro tip: Anyone who uses an eye cream might notice that your eyes actually feel a little puffy in the morning (sorry this is gross to read but it's real), but you may have a little extra bit of crustiness around your eyes or in the inner corner. The trick is to not put your eye cream too close to your eye and focus on the areas around it. Eye creams spread overnight and will reach the areas you need it to, but if you put it directly on your lids and undereyes, it tends to end up in your eyes. And don't nobody want that.

TONER

I'm not even gonna lie to you. For years I didn't even know what toner was or why I used it. To this day, I don't even really use it. But the function of toner is to give a little extra love to oily skin. It can help shrink your pores, further cleanse your skin, restore your skins pH balance, and really just refresh your face.

I really only use toner when I'm having breakouts or when my skin essentially feels like shit. When that's the case, I use Seaweed Oil Balancing Toner. The only real reason I use this particular one is because I use the Seaweed cleanser, and pairing them together sounds right to me. Truthfully, I have no idea.

SPOT TREATMENT

I treat my zits and blemishes with their Tea Tree Oil.

I'm an asshole, and a zit here or there is like, the biggest thing I really deal with. I don't necessarily care about their appearance unless it's in a stupid place (I had one literally on on the center of my face the other day - right between my eyebrows) or if they're painful.

This tea tree oil isn't like the stuff you get in the vitamin aisle or GNC or anything. It's made specifically for skin and zaps that shit quick AF. The Body Shop's entire line of Tea Tree skincare is incredible for oily and acne-prone skin. My sisters swear by it. That being said, it can be really drying for normal to combination skin, so I stay away from any of their other products. Go crazy, tho!

MASKS

Last but not least, we've got our face masks - and I use the Aloe Soothing Rescue Cream Mask.

Aloe really is soothing, and sometimes my face just gets red and irritated from all the stupid shit I do in life - so this is awesome to use every once in a while.
The instructions say to leave it on overnight, and it's actually not a bad thing to do. I love bubble baths, though so sometimes I'll just leave the mask on while I bathe, then wash it off before bed. Regardless, I can really tell the difference after using it and it effectively calms ya girl down which isn't easy to do.

AND THAT'S IT.

That was a lot holy shit, but that's what I use. Cleanser and moisturizer in the a.m. Makeup cleanser, regular cleanser, night cream, and eye cream at night. And an occasional toner, mask, and spot treatment.

The best part is, these products last sooooo long and Body Shop is ALWAYS having a sale on them. Shit's always buy 3 get 2 free and sometimes buy 3 get 3 free. They also have awesome rewards. So basically, you can buy your entire skincare shit at one time for half the price. It's amazing.

Please please please don't hesitate to ask me any questions about this shit. I'm no expert, but I know what works for me. Everyone's different, but you never know what might work for you until you try :)
